Deftones fans were in for a treat during their Coachella 2024 set as they covered The Smiths’ 1984 hit “Please, Please, Please Let Me Get What I Want”. The band’s performance was made even more special as they rarely play their cover of the indie classic, which was included on Deftones’ 2011 compilation album “Covers”. The album features the band’s take on tracks by the likes of Sade, The Cars, and Lynyrd Skynyrd, among others.

During their debut set at this year’s Coachella, Chino Moreno and company initially performed “Be Quiet and Drive (Far Away)” before segueing into their rendition of The Smiths’ song. The band also performed “Combat,” a track from their fifth studio album “Saturday Night Wrist,” for the first time since 2011.

Fans couldn’t contain their excitement after the performance, with some taking to Twitter to express their gratitude to Deftones for playing “Please, Please, Please Let Me Get What I Want.” Others commented on the camera work during the live stream, with one user describing it as “like a Michael Bay film.”

There was plenty of excitement to go around during Coachella 2024, with Shakira making a surprise guest appearance during Bizarrap’s set and announcing a new world tour. Sabrina Carpenter and Lil Uzi Vert also delivered unforgettable performances on the main stage. Stay tuned to NME’s live blog for more updates from the festival
