An unidentified man in his 40s was shot in the abdomen in a car park on the Rathfriland Road in Banbridge on Friday evening. According to police, the incident was reported soon after 8 p.m. Another man in his 40s has been taken into custody. The victim is being treated at the Royal Victoria Hospital in Belfast, and his condition is listed as serious.

Police are investigating a potential connection to the Drone Hill Road area of Corbet, where a vehicle was set on fire around 20 minutes after the shooting occurred. A silver Citroen automobile was also observed leaving toward from the shooting site and driving south on the A1 dual carriageway.

According to Carla Lockhart, the MP for Upper Bann, anyone with information regarding the incident should contact the police. She also stated that the investigation should be allowed to proceed in order for justice to be served. Meanwhile, Eoin Tennyson, Alliance Upper Bann MLA, condemned the violence.

People in Banbridge were reportedly shaken by the shooting. Police cordoned off several roads, including the off-slip and on-slip to the A1 dual carriageway at the flyover and the Drone Hill Road road in Corbett. Investigations are still ongoing
