Baby remains found in Wigan house: Five arrested

Police in Greater Manchester have reported discovering “human remains” of an infant at an address in Marsh Green, Wigan. The police force has closed off the area surrounding the property and arrested five individuals, aged between 20 and 70, on suspicion of concealing a death and unlawful burial. Although the five suspects have been released on bail, the address remains under police guard, while another area in Valley Road, Pemberton has also been sealed off by officers. Police described the discovery of the remains as “heart-breaking” and specialist teams are investigating the incident, although the police stressed that it was likely to be an isolated case and there would be no further threat to the wider public.

Ch Supt Clare Jenkins of the Greater Manchester Police also expressed sympathy for the local community, stating that they were aware of the impact that the discovery would have: “This is a truly heart-breaking discovery…We have several teams of officers and specialist resources working diligently to find answers.” She also added that the police were “confident that this is isolated”. The police have promised to reveal further information about the details of the incident once it has become available.

Anyone with information about the incident is asked to report it to the Greater Manchester police. Furthermore, in the event of any concerns within the community, a dedicated team of officers is available to provide support and guidance. The discovery of the remains has shocked the local community and the fact that the infant died under unexplained circumstances is likely to be a matter of concern for the public. However, the police have assured the community that they are doing their utmost to discover more information about what happened and that the incident is unlikely to be repeated.

In the interim, both the local and wider community will hope that the police are able to offer swift and sensitive answers as to how the infant’s remains came to be found. Although the full details of the case are yet to be revealed, both the community in this area and parents across the country will be hoping that the police are able to establish the circumstances of the case as soon as possible
