The Libertines have landed their first UK Albums Charts number one position in over two decades with their new album ‘All Quiet On The Eastern Esplanade.’ The band, made up of Pete Doherty, Carl Barât, John Hassall, and Gary Powell, released their fourth studio album earlier this month, marking their first since ‘Anthems For Doomed Youth’ in 2015. The album was reported to be headed for the number one spot earlier this week, with the band promoting it by showing off their dance moves on TikTok.
The Libertines’ first and only number one position on the charts was back in 2004 when they released their eponymous album ‘The Libertines.’ Commenting on their new milestone, the band said they were grateful for the love and support they have received from their fans throughout their career. Last week’s chart-topper, ‘Cowboy Carter,’ by Beyoncé, is now at the number two spot, followed by The K’s debut album, ‘I Wonder If The World Knows?’
‘All Quiet On The Eastern Esplanade’ is currently the biggest release on vinyl, topping the Official Vinyl Albums and Record Store Charts. NME rated the album four stars, saying, “The Libertines feel like a band with a viable future.” Ahead of the album’s release, the band spoke to NME in October, with Carl Barât explaining that everyone was “facing in the same direction” for this record. To celebrate their album’s release, The Libertines have added new dates to their 2024 UK and Ireland headline tour.
The Libertines’ latest album ‘All Quiet On The Eastern Esplanade’ has secured the number one spot on the UK Albums Charts, their first lead position in more than 20 years. The group’s debut and only other title to top the charts was 2004’s self-titled album ‘The Libertines.’ The album set a record as the largest release on vinyl, reaching number one on the Official Vinyl Albums and Record Store Charts. With songs like ‘The Crack-Up’, ‘Heart of the Matter’, and ‘Lust of the Libertines,’ the album received critical acclaim for finding the band’s voice again. The new milestone comes after the band dedicatedly promoted their album by showcasing the latest dance moves on TikTok
