Habibur Masum, a 25-year-old man from Burnley, is set to stand trial later this year for the murder of his wife, Kulsuma Aktar. Ms Akter, 27, was stabbed while walking with her baby in a pram on Westgate in Bradford on April 6th. Mr Masum was arrested in Aylesbury, Buckinghamshire, after a three-day manhunt and has been charged with murder and possession of a bladed article.
Following a brief hearing at Bradford Crown Court on Friday, Mr Masum was remanded back into custody ahead of a plea and trial preparation hearing on May 10th. He appeared in court via video link, where a provisional trial date of November 18th was set.
Ms Akter was found seriously injured at around 3:21 PM BST and was taken to the hospital but later died. Her baby was unharmed. West Yorkshire Police and Greater Manchester Police have both referred themselves to the Independent Office for Police Conduct (IOPC) as they had both had contacts with Ms Akter before her death.
The BBC reported that Mr Masum was brought into Bradford Crown Court during a three-minute court session, during which he lifted his head briefly to confirm his name and date of birth. No further details were given during the hearing
