English singer-songwriter PJ Harvey has shared a demo of “Eugene Alone”, a track she wrote with Ben Power for the play London Tide. PJ, who goes by her real name, Polly Jean Harvey, released the track to celebrate the opening of London Tide on April 10. Although the song is performed by Jamael Westman in the play, PJ Harvey’s solo acoustic demo is now available on her website. The song discusses the character’s feelings and surroundings, with lyrics such as “The night plays tricks on me / The streets become unknown / I see her in the lamplight / Her dark eyes on the stone”.
In addition to the single, Harvey shared comments on her website about the collaboration with Power and director Ian Rickson for London Tide. The play, which opened at London’s National Theatre on April 10, is based on Charles Dickens’ final completed novel, Our Mutual Friend. It highlights the impact of greed and corruption caused by money.
Harvey is known for her latest album “I Inside The Old Year Dying” and the successful announcement of her upcoming North American tour, which begins September 11. She will have several appearances throughout the US and Canada before wrapping up her 16-date tour on October 14 at The Greek Theatre in LA. She will also headline other festivals this summer, including Roskilde, Øya, Primavera Sound, and Flow Festival.
Tickets for London Tide are still on sale at the National Theatre in London and will run through June 22. The play has been directed by Ian Rickson, who previously directed Hamlet and Translations.
