A 25-year-old man, Habibur Masum, has been charged with the murder of Kulsuma Akter, who was stabbed while pushing her baby in a pram in Bradford. Four other men were arrested on suspicion of assisting an offender and drug offenses, with one being released on bail. At the time of her death, Akter was found with serious injuries, was taken to a hospital and later passed on. The Independent Office for Police Conduct (IOPC) is investigating both West Yorkshire Police and Greater Manchester Police’s prior contact with the pair, who have both referred themselves.
Masum was put under arrest last week after a four-day manhunt. The man, from Burnley, will appear in Bradford Magistrates Court on Thursday. Charges against him also include possession of a bladed article. Following a review of a file of evidence provided by West Yorkshire Police, the CPS authorized the charges. Shaun Sigamoney, from the CPS, said, “Our thoughts are with Kulsuma Akter’s family.”
West Yorkshire Police and Greater Manchester Police (GMP) have both referred themselves to the Independent Office for Police Conduct (IOPC) as both had had prior contact with the pair. Her baby was not harmed in the attack. The investigation is still ongoing, and more details will be released shortly as they come to light.
