The recent tragic death of Kulsuma Akter has left her mother heartbroken. Akter was walking with her baby along Westgate in Bradford on 6 April when she was brutally attacked and subsequently died in the hospital. Her mother, Monwara Begum, who lives in Bangladesh, spoke of her shock and devastation at the news of her daughter’s death. Begum recounted how Akter had looked after her after her eldest daughter’s marriage and would video call her every day, except for the day she was attacked.

Despite the tragic loss of her daughter, Begum highlighted how close she and Akter were and how much she adored her. Akter’s baby son was thankfully unharmed in the attack, and it is now down to the legal system and authorities to ensure that justice is served for Akter and her family.

Masum has been charged with murder and possession of a bladed article and is currently remanded to appear at a crown court in Bradford on Friday.
