In a moment that delighted fans, singer Olivia Rodrigo brought out Jewel as a surprise guest during her final show of the ‘Guts’ North American tour at Madison Square Garden in New York City on 9 April. After performing a selection of her own work, including ‘Vampire’, ‘Obsessed’, and ‘Drivers License’, Rodrigo introduced Jewel to the stage for a duet of her 1995 hit ‘You Were Meant For Me’. The song was originally featured on Jewel’s debut album, which saw her rise to fame and reached number two in the singles charts.
Rodrigo expressed her admiration for Jewel, describing her as an incredible songwriter, before the pair sang a stirring rendition of her hit song. The two musicians joined in harmonies for the chorus while playing guitars, rounding off Rodrigo’s 24-song setlist on a high.
Rodrigo has consistently surprised fans with guest appearances during the ‘Guts’ tour. During her first show in NYC on 5 April, she welcomed Noah Kahan to the stage to perform a duet of his track ‘Stick Season’. The teenage sensation has previously covered Kahan’s music in BBC Radio 1’s Live Lounge and featured his version of her song ‘Lacy’ in his own Live Lounge appearance. Rodrigo also brought out Sheryl Crow during a Nashville show earlier this year, where they performed a duet of Crow’s ‘If It Makes You Happy’.
Rodrigo’s ‘Guts’ world tour is due to run until mid-August and will see her perform in various locations across the globe, including the UK, Ireland, and Europe. The UK leg of her tour features four nights at The O2 in London. There are still tickets available on Ticketmaster’s website if fans want to catch Rodrigo showcase her talents live on stage
