Vampire Weekend has been added to the Coachella 2024 festival lineup, with the announcement coming just days after the band released their fifth album, “Only God Was Above Us”. The New York City-based band is set to perform for 45 minutes on the Outdoor Theatre stage from 5:00-5:45 pm on Saturday, April 13th, during the festival’s first weekend. It is unclear at this point whether Vampire Weekend will be performing during the second weekend of the festival as well. This marks the band’s fourth appearance at Coachella, previously performing in 2008, 2010, and 2013.
The announcement was made yesterday by festival organizers, who also shared the full schedule for the first weekend of the festival. They wrote “Vampire Weekend 1” in the caption announcing the addition of the band to the lineup. In a separate post, the band shared an image of the festival site with the caption “(Vampire) Weekend One.”
Other headlining acts for the festival include Lana Del Rey, Tyler, The Creator, and Doja Cat. No Doubt will perform their first live show in nine years, while other artists on the lineup include Blur, Justice, Deftones, Grimes, Bleachers, and Khruangbin.
In addition to Coachella, Vampire Weekend is currently on tour in North America, which began on April 8th in Austin, Texas. The band performed during a total solar eclipse and debuted some new songs during the show. They also performed with Phoenix’s Thomas Mars. The concert was live-streamed on Veeps and is available exclusively for Veeps All Access subscribers.
Vampire Weekend’s European and UK tour is set to take place later this year, and the band is also scheduled to perform at Radio 1’s Big Weekend in Luton next month. They are set to appear at Primavera Sound, Kilby Block Party, and Hinterland festivals as well. A four-star review of “Only God Was Above Us” by NME describes the album as “an ambitious concoction of sounds that don’t seem to exist in the same realm.
