An eagerly-anticipated trailer has excited fans after it was released for the upcoming film, Joker 2. The first look teaser features an unexpected appearance from Steve Coogan, among others. Coogan appears briefly in the thirty-second clip, playing a character that appeared to pose questions to the Joker. Social media chatter suggests that this role could either be a prison worker or a psychologist at the facility where the Joker is being held.

The trailer shows that director Todd Phillips has moved away slightly from the DC origin story of Harley Quinn, where she is a psychologist at Gotham City’s Arkham Asylum. This is where we left Joker at the end of the first movie. In the new film, it is suggested that Harley Quinn is herself a patient at the psychiatric facility, where she becomes close with Phoenix’s character.
There was much speculation before the release of the trailer that Joker 2 would be a musical production. The trailer shows scenes involving dancing, stage performances, and a powerful scene where Arthur/Joker was seen leaning over a microphone under a spotlight. Director Todd Phillips has confirmed that the movie is not a full musical but music will be an “essential element” to the film. Also set to join the cast of the second instalment are Brendan Gleeson, Catherine Keener and Ken Leung
