Mexican news channel accidentally airs man’s testicles instead of solar eclipse

Viewers of RCG Media’s 24/7 news programme in Mexico were in for a surprise when the station showed a video of a naked man blocking the sun with his testicles, instead of actual footage of the solar eclipse, which occurred on April 8. Initially, the show had been showcasing clips submitted by viewers of the eclipse. The presenter was discussing which cities had sightings of the celestial event when the images of the naked man in question were broadcast to viewers.

Once the hosts realised what they had done, the segment was immediately cut. One of the hosts was visibly shocked and another host later had to explain that the video had been submitted by a fan. In hindsight, the station noted how easily mistakes like these can be made when the station is using footage that viewers have sent in.

According to Spanish news site Vandal, the clip of the naked man has actually been circulating since 2017 when the last solar eclipse had occurred. The video of RCG Media’s blunder went viral, with the network becoming a meme in the process. In other eclipse news, Jimmy Fallon and Heart performed “Total Eclipse of the Heart” on The Tonight Show with Jimmy Fallon, and Vampire Weekend performed the ’80s hit in Austin, Texas, to commemorate the eclipse.

This blunder shows the importance of double-checking content before it goes live. It also highlights the risk of using viewer-submitted footage, as there is no guarantee that it hasn’t been tampered with or altered in some way. While mistakes can be made, it’s best to take precautions to ensure that they don’t happen in the first place
