The Libertines have purchased the bathtub that Jim Morrison, the frontman of The Doors, died in and plan to display it in one of the rooms of their Margate hotel, The Albion Rooms. During an interview with Apple Music 1, Pete Doherty and Carl Barât discussed their dream of opening their own hotel and studio space in 2020, a goal they have successfully achieved. Doherty explained that they were able to purchase the infamous bathtub through a friend of his wife’s cousin, who had been going on about it and was uninterested in selling it to those who wanted to profit from Morrison’s death. The Libertines are also the current chart-toppers with their new album ‘All Quiet On The Eastern Esplanade’ which came out almost a decade after their last full-length release.

Earlier on in the interview, Barât revealed that he had purchased Jimi Hendrix’s coat in an auction that he was convinced to join. The Albion Rooms has accomplished its ambitions of becoming The Libertines’ HQ and dream space for all band members. Barât expressed his desire to have a studio where musicians could stay, enabling them to bond and work freely without any touring schedules interfering.

The Margate hotel also served as a creative space for the band to record their latest album. Doherty notes that their fourth album is different from the previous ones, as each member contributed their own strong ideas and put equal time and energy into the project. Their hard work has paid off as they have been praised for “Finding their voice again” by NME in a four-star review of ‘…Eastern Esplanade’.

Lastly, The Libertines have added several new shows to their 2024 UK and Ireland headline tour, including the classics “Can’t Stand Me Now” and “Don’t Look Back into the Sun.” It’s worth noting that they have not added extra content on the album to prolong the tour, as each song is just as important and celebrated with the same level of enthusiasm. The “boys in the band” are back, and their success continues to soar
