David Cameron meets Donald Trump in Florida ahead of Blinken talks

Former UK Prime Minister and current Foreign Secretary David Cameron has headed to Washington D.C. after meeting with former President Donald Trump in Florida. Lord Cameron is in the US to discuss the situations in Gaza and Ukraine with senior government officials. While he has previously criticised Mr. Trump, it is not unusual for foreign secretaries to meet with opposition candidates during visits abroad.

During his visit, Lord Cameron is expected to discuss support for Ukraine and bringing stability to the Middle East with US Secretary of State Antony Blinken. Republican lawmakers have been blocking a proposed $60 billion military aid package for Ukraine for months, with Mr. Trump and his supporters opposing the package. Republican congresswoman and Trump loyalist Marjorie Taylor-Greene has previously clashed with Lord Cameron over his advocacy for the aid package.

Lord Cameron is also set to discuss the deaths of three British men working for aid organisation World Central Kitchen in Gaza during his talks with Mr. Blinken. In his memoirs published in 2019, Lord Cameron described it as “depressing” that Mr. Trump could win an election and attributed it to his “protectionist, xenophobic, misogynistic interventions.”

Lord Cameron previously criticised Mr. Trump in 2015 when he was Prime Minister, calling his proposed temporary ban on Muslims entering the US “divisive, stupid, and wrong.” In response, Mr. Trump warned he may not have a “very good relationship” with Mr. Cameron during his presidency
