Billie Eilish has recently announced the release of her new album ‘Hit Me Hard and Soft,’ which is set to arrive on May 17 and is available for pre-order. Eilish’s third album will be available in digital and limited physical variants. Eilish has announced that she is making strides to make her vinyl as eco-friendly as possible – stating that the vinyl will be produced with the most sustainable practices available. The vinyl will be released in eight different variants, including a standard black vinyl made from 100% recycled black vinyl. The remaining seven colored vinyl will be made from eco-mix or bio-vinyl, which helps to reduce carbon emissions by 90% compared to virgin vinyl.
Furthermore, the packaging for the vinyl will also be eco-friendly. All vinyl packaging will be made from FSC certified recycled paper and boards made from 100% post-consumer waste and recycled pre-consumer fibers. The ink used will be raw plant-based and water-based dispersion varnish. In place of shrink-wrap, the sleeves will be 100% recycled and reusable. All finished goods will be shipped in up to 93% recycled and 100% recyclable shipping boxes.
Eilish’s advocacy for climate action can be seen in her commitment to eco-friendly vinyl. She has hosted the ‘Overheated’ climate action event in London last year with her mother, Maggie Baird. Eilish’s mother had stated that the music industry is in jeopardy, and if artists don’t take measures to reduce their carbon footprint, they will be forced to in the future.
In a recent interview, Eilish had criticised artists who release multiple vinyl formats to boost album sales, calling the practise “really frustrating.” Eilish continues to make strides to make her music and merchandise as sustainable as possible. The announcement of her eco-friendly vinyl has excited fans who are passionate about climate action and sustainability
