Lily Allen recently received a response from Azealia Banks after she criticised Beyoncé’s new album ‘Cowboy Carter’. The comments were made on the Miss Me? podcast, where Allen described Beyoncé’s cover of Dolly Parton’s ‘Jolene’ as “weird”. Banks, who has also criticised the album, responded to Allen’s comments by alleging that she had made racist remarks in the past.
Via her Instagram Story, Banks stated that Allen had called her while “off her face” and crying, apologising for “randomly being racist”. Banks quoted Allen as saying “well, I just figured since I’m a white girl and you’re just some Black girl that I could shit on you…”. Allen has not responded publicly to Banks’ recent comments.
This is not the first time that Banks and Allen have feuded. Their 11-year-long feud originated in 2013 when Banks called Allen “weak” and insulted her then-husband Sam Cooper’s appearance. In response, Allen criticised Banks’ record sales and called her a “one hit wonder”. The feud continued with Banks insulting Allen’s children and accusing her of having a “coke habit”. Despite this, Allen admitted that their Twitter feud had motivated her to write new songs.
Banks continues to weigh in on various celebrity spats online, most recently discussing the alleged beef between Megan Thee Stallion and Nicki Minaj. She argued that the feud was “about Jay-Z”. Banks’ criticism of Beyoncé’s ‘Cowboy Carter’ album has included claims that the record is “white women cosplay” and missing certain guest artists.
