Manami, a Tokyo-born DJ, producer and pianist based in London, has announced the launch of her new label, VMR (Virtual Myth Recordings), and the release of her six-track EP on May 10. The lead single from the EP, titled ‘Dreaming Still’, is now available. Manami explores a range of electric genres, including electro, proggy house, breaks and bassline, on the EP. VMR takes inspiration from Manami’s upbringing, which involved a lot of raves, and her career journey, and has a vibrant and insightful approach to the genre.
Manami has said that the purpose of VMR is to tell stories of music in ways that don’t fit into the confines of standard genre-binding labels. Manami aims to create worlds within each release, and wants future artists on the label to “harness this power” and share their own stories too.
Regarding the lead single ‘Dreaming Still’, Manami described it as a consolidation of her past, present and future, both creatively and personally. She said the track is “where two worlds push and pull; where a dream-like state is intercepted by a distorted reality. A chase for life’s resolve but the resolve constantly pulling away.”
