Former Manchester United player and pundit Gary Neville has announced that he will be making his DJ debut under the pseudonym G-Dog, alongside Tim Burgess, at the upcoming Kendal Calling festival. The festival is set to take place at Lowther Deer Park in the Lake District with a headline set from Noel Gallagher’s High Flying Birds amongst others. Speaking on Geoff Shreeves’ podcast, Football, Music and Me, Neville expressed his concerns about his lack of experience, saying: “I’m worried about what I actually have to do, to be honest.” However, he went on to praise Tim Burgess and said he would be willing to work with him on a setlist: “Obviously, Tim has [played] thousands of times, I’ll just be accompanying him…so, hopefully, he’ll come up with a good setlist.”
Neville went on to admit that he had never DJ’d before adding: “I’m trying to wangle my way out of it but I can’t once I’ve said yes to something.” Despite his worries, this has not deterred the former footballer from opening up his limits and trying things outside of his comfort zone after having ended his lengthy football playing career. Talking about the experience, Neville said: “I finished my football career, and there were many things I did to put myself out of my comfort zone. I mean… what the hell am I doing?”.
Burgess, who recently launched a touring bag inspired by his band The Charlatans’ single ‘How High’, commented that the set would consist of a group of songs played on the Sunday night after the final acts are on. Although Neville has never done something like this before, it is clear that he is taking this challenge seriously and has already spoken with Burgess about the songs they think people will want on the night. The festival is set to run from August 1-4 and other acts set to perform include Paolo Nutini, The Streets and Keane
