Frances Bean speaks out on loss of Kurt Cobain on 30th anniversary of death: “I wish I could have known my dad”

Frances Bean Cobain has shared an emotional post on Instagram marking the 30th anniversary of her father, Kurt Cobain’s death. Kurt Cobain fronted the band Nirvana along with Dave Grohl and Krist Novoselic, achieving iconic status in the music world during the 1980s and 1990s grunge scene. He took his own life on April 5, 1994, when his daughter was just one year old. Frances Bean shared a series of pictures of her father, including a poignant image of his hands and a photograph of her with him taken shortly before his death.

Frances Bean’s touching tribute explored how the experience of losing a loved one affected her and how she had to learn to “lean into loving awareness” to make sense of the world. She also discussed how she wished she had the chance to know her father. “I wish I could’ve known my Dad. I wish I knew the cadence of his voice, how he liked his coffee, or the way it felt to be tucked in after a bedtime story,” she wrote.

Despite growing up without her father, Frances Bean has developed a successful career as an artist and photographer. She has also dabbled in music, sharing snippets of original songs on social media and revealing in an interview with E! News that she was proud of her artistic work. She is reported to have said, “With regards to music, I don’t want to pigeonhole myself and say I am a musician or a visual artist because I feel like it’s all-encompassing and I feel like every bit of my art is related to the other.”

Frances Bean’s post comes on the same day that Russell Peacock and Constance Hansen, also known as the photography duo Guzman, released a book of previously unseen pictures of Kurt Cobain, and the BBC announced it was to show special programming to commemorate the musician’s life
