Famed singer Chaka Khan has disclosed that her incredibly busy schedule led to her rejecting the invitation to perform at this year’s Glastonbury Festival in the legends slot. Khan, who is currently curating the Meltdown Festival taking place in June of this year, told The Sun that Glastonbury had approached her but unfortunately she had to turn down the offer due to her prior commitments with the festival she was already curating. She went on to say that she would love nothing more than to perform a future legends slot at the Glastonbury Festival if an opportunity ever presented itself.
The Glastonbury Festival’s legends slot this year was ultimately given to renowned singer Shania Twain with many fans eagerly anticipating her performance. Despite her rejection of the offer, Chaka Khan left the door open for future performances at the festival. The festival itself will run from June 26th to June 30th in Pilton, Somerset at Worthy Farm.
Chaka Khan is celebrating 50 years of her career by curating Meltdown Festival taking place from June 14th to June 23rd, with her performances being one of the main highlights. The festival is set to see the singer bring her global influence and incredible voice to London’s Southbank Centre during the ten days. The festival is a highly-regarded event that has seen big names such as David Bowie, Lou Reed and Jeff Beck collaborate in the past. Khan will be the 29th artist to curate the festival.
Ticket packages for Glastonbury this year sold out in under an hour, with the general ticket sale going even quicker.
