Entertainment and music investment firm Pophouse has acquired the catalogue, brand name, trademarks and likeness of legendary rock band KISS. The deal will be used to expand the band’s legacy globally, preserving their image and music for future generations. The financial terms of the agreement have not been revealed, and the band will continue to play an active role in upcoming projects. Plans include a biopic, an avatar show, and a KISS-themed experience.
Pophouse’s acquisition of KISS follows the firm’s development of brand-building activities across music and entertainment, including the ABBA Voyage show in London. KISS marks Pophouse’s second investment outside of Sweden, with the first being the acquisition of Cyndi Lauper’s catalogue.
The deal with KISS will involve the band members continuing their active role in the development of future projects. Bassist and co-founder Gene Simmons said the partnership with Pophouse was “breaking rules,” and that the future “could not be more exciting.” Co-founder and lead vocalist Paul Stanley added that the venture aims to “ensur[e] that the KISS experience continues to captivate both our devoted fans and those yet to discover the thrill.”
Plans for a KISS avatar show were previewed at the final show of the band’s farewell tour in December 2023, with members’ avatars closing the night with a rendition of “God Gave Rock And Roll To You.” Simmons confirmed that the band’s virtual avatars will “get better” and revealed funds of “about 200 million dollars” were being invested in the technology.
The partnership with Pophouse will bring together the revolutionary rock experience of KISS with the brand-building expertise of Pophouse. As a result, KISS’s legacy will be further cemented in the global entertainment industry for years to come
