Lara Croft, the iconic character from Tomb Raider, has been voted as the most iconic gaming character of all time, according to a survey conducted by BAFTA ahead of their 20th Games Awards. More than 4,000 people from across the world took part in this survey and the results were announced recently. Mario and Sonic were voted second and fourth in the poll respectively with Agent 47 from Hitman taking the third spot after Lara Croft.
Shelley Blond, the original voice actor for Lara Croft, expressed her excitement over the poll results and said that Lara Croft is a “female Indiana Jones type of character, ballsy and well spoken”. Blond added that Lara is a special character for her due to her significance amongst gamers, particularly hearing the stories from people around the world who played the game and channelled Lara.
In 2023, Christopher Judge won the award for Best Performer In A Leading Role at the BAFTA Games Awards for his portrayal of Kratos in God Of War. Judge mentioned how playing Kratos gave him something profoundly that it’s all about listening, loving, and ultimately about opening your own heart and accepting love.
Tomb Raider 1-3 Remastered was released earlier this year by Amazon Games, bringing the first three Lara Croft-starring games to modern consoles. Amazon Games and Crystal Dynamics are also working on a new Tomb Raider title which will “unify” the series. The new title will include all the elements that have made Tomb Raider one of the most revered franchises in gaming, giving players control of the confident and multidimensional hero Lara Croft in an environment that rewards exploration and creative pathfinding.
