After departing SM Entertainment last month, SHINee vocalist, Onew, has signed on with Griffin Entertainment. The agency made an announcement to South Korea’s Sports Kyunghang News today applauding their newfound relationship: “We are happy to be together with Onew on his new start. Griffin Entertainment will not spare any effort so that we can become the artist’s sanctuary.” They added that their intention is to establish an open space for artists to flourish and let their talents shine.
Taking to his Instagram account, Onew confirmed the news himself with an announcement and a series of new profile photos: “You’ve waited long, haven’t you? Thank you!” Accompanied by the release of his new music later this year, the singer is now set to be the face of Griffin Entertainment, marking him as the agency’s first artist.
Onew originally joined SM Entertainment in 2008, and was a member of the K-pop boyband SHINee. SM Entertainment confirmed that he would depart the agency after 18 years. Another member of SHINee, Taemin, also recently left SM Entertainment, this week signing a contract with Big Planet Made. It is still unclear whether the remaining two members of SHINee, Key and Minho, will continue to stay with SM Entertainment; however, it has been ensured by the company that all members will continue to perform as SHINee, whilst they will manage their solo careers individually.
Griffin now looks ahead to promoting Onew in his new beginnings, whilst the artist anticipates making some waves within the industry. This marks the next chapter in Onew’s career, however, his millions of fans globally will be cheering him on every step of the way
