The creator of Tekken, Katsuhiro Harada, has received numerous requests from fans to add Waffle House to the game. Due to the fast food restaurant’s reputation for staying open no matter what, as well as viral videos showing brawls at Waffle Houses, fans have suggested a Waffle House-inspired level be brought to the game. One fan tweeted at Harada asking him to add the stage to Tekken 8. Harada responded, asking for an explanation of why the community wants Waffle House in the game, including the original story, history, and background behind the request.
Several fans responded, offering reasons such as the strongest fighters coming to Waffle House at 2am after a night of drinking and it being a common meeting spot for mutual combat in the United States. Another fan highlighted the unofficial disaster response metric known as the Waffle House Index provided by the Federal Emergency Management Agency. Despite the community’s interest, Harada stated that he cannot add Waffle House to the game if the restaurant chain’s headquarters refuses to accept his proposal since they have the trademark and rights to the restaurant. He also previously responded to rumors that Final Fantasy 7’s Tifa would join the game, saying they have not decided anything about guest characters yet.
