April Fool’s Day is always a day for pranksters to showcase their best jokes, and Robert Fripp is no exception. The musician released a video yesterday, in which he appears naked, with only his guitar covering his lower parts, announcing that he has joined OnlyFans. In the video, he caresses the neck of his Gibson Les Paul while making suggestive facial expressions.
The description for Fripp’s OnlyFans account reads, “Robert has officially joined OnlyFans! Subscribe now for exclusive, jaw-dropping content you never knew you needed.” However, after clicking on the link, users are taken to an error message, indicating that the stunt was a joke.
While some fans found the prank amusing, others did not seem to catch on, with one commentator on YouTube writing, “This will no doubt upset all the King Crimson purists,” while another appears genuinely concerned and demands that Robert’s doctor be called. Twitter users, on the other hand, appeared to enjoy the joke, with one even using the cover of King Crimson’s ‘In The Court Of The Crimson King’ to respond to the stunt.
Fripp teamed up with Toyah Willcox last year, and together, they released a popular YouTube series during the pandemic lockdown. In December, they are set to perform live on a string of dates following the success of their critically acclaimed Tour of ’23. The duo will launch the shows on December 16 at the Queens Hall in Edinburgh before moving to Sunderland, Bath, and London, concluding the tour on December 22 at the Wulfrun Hall in Wolverhampton.
