‘Palworld’ hints that April Fools’ dating sim could become a reality

Video game Palworld teased an April Fools’ Day dating sim expansion called Palworld: More Than Just Pals, which may actually become a reality. The trailer introduced several Pals along with one-line bios and flirtatious interactions that turned into inappropriate actions. The game’s official Twitter account responded positively to fans expressing interest in the dating sim, with one saying they’d buy an unironic version. Representatives of Cult of the Lamb added a “sex update” to their game after a joke about the request gained traction, and Palworld has praised the strategy.

Palworld’s developers, Pocketpair, released a roadmap earlier this year to introduce raid bosses and PvP combat. CEO Takuro Mizobe also stated the studio was in talks to release the game on other platforms. On April Fools’ Day, other video game pranks included fake release date announcements for Hollow Knight: Silksong and Resident Evil and a trailer for a Pokémon tournament for Sleep. The Palworld dating sim expansion could become a reality if developers decide to follow in the footsteps of Cult of the Lamb, which added the “Sins of the Flesh” update five months after promising to add sexual content to the game if it reached 300k followers. Palworld praised the strategy on Twitter and hinted they may follow suit.

Although Palworld began as a game about capturing and collecting “Pals,” the expansion made more of a nod to the sexual world of dating sims, which involve anime characters in romantic or sexual relationships. It is unclear whether the dating sim expansion, which the developers initially presented as an April Fools’ Day joke, will make it to release like Cult of the Lamb’s update. Fans have expressed interest in the dating sim, prompting the developers to hint at its future. Video game pranks, particularly announcements of unlikely or inappropriate features, have become a staple of April Fools’ Day, with fans hoping to see some of the jokes become reality
