KT Tunstall and Azealia Banks may have formed an unlikely friendship after derogatory comments Banks made about Beyoncé’s latest album, “Cowboy Carter.” Banks previously criticized Queen Bey’s new country-influenced musical direction, labeling it “white women cosplay” and claiming that Beyoncé is “setting herself up to be ridiculed.” She further complained about the absence of Taylor Swift and Kacey Musgraves before expressing the wish that Tunstall had appeared on the album.
Responding to the comment, Tunstall humorously replied on social media by sharing an NME article and writing, “To be fair, I’d have 100% got off the couch.” Banks quoted Tunstall’s response on Instagram, revealing “Suddenly I See” is one of my favorite songs, and Tunstall thanked Banks for the compliment and commended her on her artistry.
“Deepest thanks xxx In these strange times, I’m grateful I sat in my shitty basement in London and wrote these songs all on my own with no dilution – honest and raw, no agenda. More of that (and Joy please!) from all of us. Love to you,” Tunstall replied.
Beyoncé’s “Cowboy Carter” was released on 29th March, with speculation that the album features Beyoncé making reference to Jay-Z cheating on her, leading to teasing comments from Banks on Instagram. Despite this, Banks did praise the “great work” by the “band/producers/engineers.”
Fans of the album have been responding positively to the new cover of The Beatles’ “Blackbird” and Beyonce’s re-interpretation of Parton’s “Jolene.
