Norwegian footballer Frida Maanum collapsed on the pitch during the Women’s League Cup final, bringing play to a halt for seven minutes. Maanum received medical treatment before being taken off on a stretcher. Alessia Russo came on to replace the midfielder and play resumed with the scores level at 0-0. Arsenal said she was in a “stable condition”.

Arsenal boss Jonas Eidevall said his team wanted to make Maanum “a champion” and that it was “very scary” when she collapsed, adding: “Immediately after the game, we don’t care about winning, we care about Frida – that is most important.” Eidevall spoke with the 24-year-old after the match.

Both sets of players remained on the pitch while Maanum received oxygen through a mask before being carried down the tunnel at Molineux. Stina Blackstenius and Katie McCabe rushed to the fallen player’s side and the concern was palpable among players and club representatives.

Maanum joined Arsenal from Swedish side Linkoping in 2021 and has since scored 14 goals in 60 Women’s Super League appearances.
