Beyoncé makes a dig at the Grammys on ‘Cowboy Carter’

Beyoncé has taken a subtle swipe at the Grammys on her new album ‘Cowboy Carter’. Although the singer holds the record for the most Grammy wins and has been nominated for Album of the Year four times, she has yet to win the award. In her new song ‘Sweet Honey Buckin”, Beyoncé raps: “AOTY [Artist of the Year], I ain’t win / I ain’t stuntin’ ’bout them / Take that s – – t on the chin / Come back and f – – k up the pen.”

This year, Beyoncé’s husband Jay-Z criticised the Grammys for their AOTY criteria when he accepted his Global Impact Award. He stated that Beyoncé has more Grammys than everyone but has never won Album of the Year, and thus suggests that even by the award show’s own metrics, there might be something wrong with the way they’re selecting artists.

Beyoncé’s father, Matthew Knowles, also pointed out that the singer’s label may be to blame for the snub, citing the process where the record label can only appoint one person in a category. Columbia Records, her record label, has never designated her for consideration.

In the past, Adele has also acknowledged the Grammys’ apparent disregard for Beyoncé. She famously told reporters, “I feel like it was [Beyoncé’s] time to win. My view is: what the fuck does she have to do to win Album of the Year?” In other news, Beyoncé has rewritten the lyrics of Dolly Parton’s ‘Jolene’ to reference Jay-Z’s cheating scandal.
