On The Rise: h. pruz

H. Pruz is a talented singer-songwriter hailing from Queens, New York, whose rare abilities include an aversion to artifice and overstatement in their songwriting. Their latest LP, “No Glory,” is a heart-rending collection of tracks that explore the challenges of life in a deeply personal and affecting way.

One of the standout tracks on the album is “I Keep Changing,” an urgent, visceral rock song that paints the picture of a person experiencing a spiritual and personal transformation. Pruzinsky’s haunting vocals urge the listener to purge and remake themselves in response to the natural shifts of life. The metaphor of accumulating bruises is used to represent the disappointments and shaky pivots of their recent past.

Elsewhere on the album, emotions are abstracted and recast in a dim light as Pruz’s elegant, conciliatory voice sings over circular chord progressions. The record was recorded in a cabin and given depth and definition by its unvarnished sonics and impressionistic arrangements, conjuring the image of a lost gem of a private-press folk record.

H. Pruz is quickly gaining recognition in the indie-folk scene as an artist to watch. They also perform and co-write with the rising NYC rock band Sister as well as collaborate with Mutual Benefit and Told Slant. Signed copies of “No Glory” are available for pre-order on Rough Trade, where H. Pruz has been featured as part of their “Rough Trade On The Rise” curation. The album is set to release on June 28th via Mtn Laurel Recording Co
