Indie band Vampire Weekend have announced a nine-date UK and European tour for late 2024 alongside the release of their new single ‘Mary Boone.’ The track, now the fourth to be shared ahead of their fifth album release, samples the drum loop from Soul II Soul’s 80s hit song ‘Back to Life (However Do You Want Me).’ The band’s new album, entitled ‘Only God Was Above Us,’ is set for release on April 5.
Vampire Weekend’s upcoming tour will kick off in Dublin on November 29 and will wrap up in Amsterdam on December 15. Pre-sale tickets will be made available on April 3, with general sale starting on April 5.
In celebration of their album release, the band will also play a livestreamed concert in Austin, Texas on April 8 which will take place during a total solar eclipse. The concert will be streamed on the online platform Veeps, with tickets available to claim for free. The new album has been described as the “product of five years spent refining, reworking and gradually shaping those lyrical and melodic structures to take Vampire Weekend to a new creative peak.”
Additionally, the band recently teased the possibility of a new side project. Frontman Ezra Koenig explained that the band had played together during the summer of 2020 without any expectations, resulting in plans for the offshoot. Though Koenig provided few details about the project’s sound, he did mention influences from punk and jam music. The group’s drummer confirmed that they had discussed opening for Vampire Weekend
