Beyoncé’s latest album ‘Cowboy Carter’ is set to feature a cover of The Beatles’ iconic track ‘Blackbird’, according to reports. The singer shared the album’s tracklist on March 27, with the record set to be released on March 29. Beyoncé has already unveiled two singles from the album in the form of ‘Texas Hold ‘Em’ and ’16 Carriages’. ‘Blackbird’ was written in 1968 as a tribute to the Civil Rights movement – this could be the reason why Beyoncé chose to cover the song, given the theme of her country-inspired album.

Beyoncé isn’t the only artist to cover a track on ‘Cowboy Carter’ – Dolly Parton accidentally confirmed that Beyoncé had recorded a version of her hit song ‘Jolene’ earlier in the month. Miley Cyrus and Post Malone will also reportedly feature on the album as collaborators.

The album’s tracklist features a total of 27 songs, with ‘Blackbird’ appearing as the second track on the record. Beyoncé has faced some criticism over the announcement of her country album, with Azealia Banks calling the music “white woman cosplay”. However, Beyoncé has responded to backlash by explaining that the album has been five years in the making, and that she studied the history of Country music to create it.

Despite the criticism, Beyoncé has become the first Black woman to reach the top of the Country charts with ‘Texas Hold ‘Em’. She has also become the first woman to top both the Hot Country Songs and Hot R&B/Hip-Hop Songs charts since their inception in 1958 – a feat previously achieved only by Justin Bieber, Billy Ray Cyrus, Ray Charles and Morgan Wallen.
