Californian quartet, Militarie Gun, performed their own take on ‘Song 2’, a hit by iconic Britpop band, Blur, during a set at the Louisville hardcore festival LDB. The band’s ’90s alternative rock influences made it sound like it easily belonged alongside their other songs. A fan-filmed footage of the cover shows an enthusiastic crowd gathered around frontman Ian Shelton, who was surrounded by gig-goers preparing to stage dive.

Militarie Gun have reportedly played ‘Song 2’ in their setlist for quite a few of their recent shows. There is a possibility that it may become part of their permanent setlist, as evidenced by its inclusion in their set over time.

In January this year, the Californian band released ‘Life Under The Sun,’ a new EP that features re-worked tracks from their 2023 debut album, ‘Life Under The Gun.’ The EP included collaborations with Manchester Orchestra, who contributed to ‘My Friends Are Having A Hard Time,’ Bully, who helped with ‘Never Fucked Up Twice,’ Mannequin Pussy, who contributed to ‘Will Logic,’ and also featured a cover of NOFX’s ‘Whoops I OD’d’.

‘Life Under The Gun’ was named as one of NME’s best albums of 2023 due to the band’s successful approach to hardcore music. The album was created without being beholden to the genre’s punk snobbery, as Militarie Gun was trying to write a timeless and undeniable record, which they achieved.
