Dublab, a Los Angeles-based radio station, and The Institute for Art and Olfaction have come together to launch Nose Music, a range of fragrances inspired by “groundbreaking albums” over the years. The project includes 10 perfumes based on albums such as Another Green World by Brian Eno and Computer World by Kraftwerk. Other records that inspired the fragrances include works by Nina Simone, Prince, Stevie Wonder and Fela Kuti. Accompanying artworks for the fragrances have been created by artists such as Chris Johanson & Joanna Jackson, Dave Muller, Eboy and Fernanda Cohen.

Only 200 sets of the custom-formulated fragrances have been made, each costing $200. The aromas are a “sensorial addition to the music we love,” Dublab said in a social media announcement. The station also recently landed a major, three-to-five-year grant to programme art and music experiences for the Tom Bradley International Terminal at Los Angeles International Airport.

The announcement provoked social and mainstream media interest, resulting in coverage and commentary from US channels including Fox, ABC and NBC, as well as numerous music-focused outlets. The project resonates with creative marketing approaches that incorporate music with other art forms.
