Chloe Mitchell: Murder victim's family struggle to cope with loss

The family of Chloe Mitchell, a young woman who was murdered in Ballymena, continues to struggle with the loss of their loved one. Chloe’s body was found following an extensive search operation after she was reported missing in the County Antrim town last summer. Her brother, Philip Mitchell, expressed that the family, especially their parents, have endured persistent suffering since Chloe’s death, making it a soul-destroying experience.

Philip stated that the family is trying to take it one day at a time and work together. However, they still can’t overcome her loss, and it feels like it happened yesterday. Watching their mother and father go through this process has been the hardest part.

To mark Chloe’s birthday, which coincides with the event, the family will hold a remembrance gathering at King George’s Park on Tuesday at 4 pm. They will be joined by loved ones and friends, releasing balloons in her memory. Philip explained that their family will always remember his “wee sister” as “forever 21,” and the Tuesday event will allow them to share fond memories of how Chloe loved her birthday celebrations.

Chloe’s sister, Nadine, expressed feeling empty and alone since her sister’s tragic death. Chloe was not just her younger sister but also her best friend, making her loss even harder to bear. The Mitchell family extended their appreciation to their extended family and the local community for the support they received since the tragedy. Chloe’s aunt Linda McDowell expressed that the community is helping the family get through this ordeal, adding that it’s not easy for them, especially on Chloe’s birthday.

Brandon John Rainey, a Ballymena resident, has been charged with Chloe Mitchell’s murder. The Mitchell family is still trying to cope with their devastating loss and hopes that justice will be served for Chloe
