‘The Penguin’ trailer looks like “peak crime drama”, say Batman fans

The new trailer for “The Penguin” TV series, which will focus on Colin Farrell’s villain from “The Batman” known as Oswald Cobblepot, has garnered a lot of reactions from Batman fans. The show is set to be released this autumn and is confirmed to have an R-rating, which means viewers under the age of 17 must be accompanied by an adult to watch it.

The teaser starts with the titular character talking about gangster Rex Calabrese, who was a big deal in the neighbourhood when Cobblepot was just a kid. He then proceeds to talk about the gangster’s death, “In my neighbourhood, they throw a parade in his honour. A friggin’ parade,” and ponders about being remembered like that.

Fans have responded positively to the trailer, with one comparing it to a peak crime drama DC thriller: “This show already looks peak crime drama DC thriller.” Others have shared their reactions and thoughts about the clip, while also praising Colin Farrell for his portrayal of Cobblepot.”I have never seen Colin Farrell collapse so fully into a character … until this one. He’s transcendent,” one of the fans wrote.

Farrell, who spoke about the series during an interview last October, revealed that the show will start about a week after the events of “The Batman” end, with Gotham still somewhat underwater. “It’s lovely. It’s so well-written. Lauren LeFranc has done an extraordinary job and she’s writing the whole thing and showrunning it,” Farrell said about the show’s opening scene. The actor also shared his excitement for the series, saying, “I love that character. I was greedy with it. I felt like I didn’t have enough. I wanted to do it more and more and more, so now I’m getting the chance.”

The Penguin TV series will pick up after the events of “The Batman” 2022 film and is sure to give fans an exciting look at one of the Caped Crusader’s most notorious villains
