Nicki Minaj and her husband Kenneth Petty have been ordered to pay $500,000 following an alleged backstage assault in 2019. The incident occurred during a concert in Frankfurt, where according to the security guard, Thomas Weidenmuller, Minaj blamed a female security guard for letting a fan climb on stage and started to record her as she yelled. Weidenmuller stepped in and told Minaj it was unfair to publicly ruin the guard’s reputation. Minaj threw a shoe at him which missed, and it was then that Petty allegedly punched him from behind, leaving him “stunned and disoriented” with a broken jaw.
“I felt a blinding pain in my head, neck, face and jaw,” Weidenmuller wrote in a court filing. “I could tell in that instant that something was seriously wrong with my jaw.” Weidenmuller stayed in the hospital for ten days and underwent several surgeries. He now reportedly has “five plates” in his jaw, which has not yet been fully reconstructed.
Weidenmuller initially asked for $21,000 to cover medical bills and $700,000 for emotional pain and suffering, but as Minaj and Petty failed to respond to the lawsuit, the judge awarded him a default judgment of over $500,000. According to Weidenmuller’s lawyers, the court tried to serve Minaj and Petty with the complaint several times but was unsuccessful.
Currently, Minaj is embarking on her Pink Friday 2 tour promoting her new album. However, Usher has recently expressed regret for smacking Minaj on the bum at the 2014 VMAs. He acknowledged he should not have hit her and that it was not respectful.
