Kelly Clarkson performed Katy Perry’s hit song ‘Wide Awake’ on her popular segment ‘Kellyoke’ and transformed it into a stripped-back power ballad. Perry, who released the song in 2012 as part of her ‘Teenage Dream’ album, watched the clip on the show’s Instagram post and commented, “ok dang I can never sing that again.” Perry sold the rights to her music for a reported $225million in November that covers the master royalty income and publishing rights for ‘One of the Boys’ (2008), ‘Teenage Dream’ (2010), ‘PRISM’ (2013), ‘Witness’ (2017) and ‘Smile’.
An insider disclosed to The Sun that Katy Perry is gearing up to release her “most personal” album yet in 2024. Her source said, “Katy has been working on her most personal album ever for much of the past two years. She has been doing it on her own terms and it is quite different from anything she has released before.” Perry’s last album was 2020’s ‘Smile,’ but it failed to grip both fans and critics that NME gave a rating of two stars.
Clarkson has covered several famous songs on her ‘Kellyoke’ series this year, including U2’s ‘Mysterious Ways’, Miley Cyrus’ ‘Used To Be Young’, and the theme song of the TV show Frasier. Although she made the songs her own, none of the original artists had publicly commented on the covers until Perry shared her reaction.
