Watch Chappell Roan bring the glamour to NPR’s ‘Tiny Desk’

Chappell Roan has received viral acclaim for her performance on NPR’s Tiny Desk web series with her all-female band dressed in pink collared shirts, blue eyeshadow, and red lipstick. Roan wore a pink dress and tiara with drag queen-inspired makeup for the performance, and she performed five tracks from her debut album, The Rise and Fall Of A Midwest Princess. The tracks included “Casual,” “Pink Pony Club,” “Picture You,” “California,” and “Red Wine Supernova.” Roan remarked that performing on the web series had been a longtime dream of hers and spoke about her love for NPR and how she has donated to support it.

Last month, Roan appeared on NME’s The Cover, where she discussed her inspiration from drag queens and how she first encountered LA’s queer scene. Roan was brought up as a devout Christian and was initially told that LA was demonic, but when she explored the queer community in West Hollywood, it opened her eyes, and she found a sense of spirituality. Roan considers the queer community to be her main fanbase and sees it as her responsibility to pay it forward; she donates a portion of her ticket and sales profits and shows up at Pride events to support it. She is currently on the road as an opening act for Olivia Rodrigo’s Brutal singer’s Guts world tour, and she will be coming to the UK and Europe in the autumn.

Chappell Roan’s UK and Europe live dates for September include Paris, France, at Le Bataclan on the 3rd, Amsterdam, Netherlands, at Melkweg on the 4th, London, UK at Eventim Apollo on the 10th, Manchester, UK at O2 Ritz on the 13th, Glasgow, UK at Saint Lukes on the 15th, and Thursday, the 17th, in Ireland, Dublin Academy. Roan sees music as spiritual and rewarding, and she continues to include her inspiration from drag queens and queer community in her artistic expression
