The band Warpaint has released a new single titled ‘Underneath’. The song, which is more acoustic-guitar led, will be released together with their recent single ‘Common Blue’ as part of a seven-inch single to commemorate the band’s 20th anniversary. Warpaint’s most recent album ‘Radiate Like This’ was released in 2022, and the band has returned to its original UK label, Rough Trade, after a stint with Virgin Records.
A statement from the band reads: “With these new songs we tie a bow around this time in our lives, and all the experiences and songs we’ve shared over the years. It’s been an incredible journey and taken us all over the world sharing good times with beautiful people. Our hearts are full!”
In an interview with NME, Warpaint spoke about their 20-year career as a band and the shift they’ve seen in terms of gender equality in music. “There are more bands, more women. People are so much more conscious about having that equality, I think”, said singer and guitarist Theresa Wayman (aka TT). When asked whether they’ve experienced sexism in the industry, she said: “I felt like we were always welcome when we were doing our thing. I don’t think we ever experienced anything overtly sexist or we were never looked down upon.”
Singer Jenny Lee Lindberg added: “It’s so normal now, women in music and all-female bands. It’s just like the new normal, it’s just what’s happening and I think that’s amazing.”
