Anitta reveals ‘Funk Generation’ release date, shares new single ‘Double Team’

Anitta has confirmed the release date of her highly anticipated new album, Funk Generation, revealing it’ll drop on April 26 via Republic Records alongside Universal Music Latin Entertainment. Alongside news of the release date, Anitta shared the album’s most recent track, Double Team, which features collaborations with Puerto Rican artist Brray and Spanish singer Bad Gyal.

The Brazilian musician is enthusiastic about the album, celebrating her roots throughout the record, highlighting the unique, danceable and sensual beats of Rio de Janeiro’s funk scene. “It’s a rhythm born in the favelas, where I grew up, and it exudes resistance and art in every community,” the musician comments in a statement about the record. Despite the stigma around funk in Brazil, Anitta is proud to showcase the genre, stating that it’s slowly gaining recognition worldwide.

The new album comes as a follow-up to Anitta’s EP, Funk Generation: A Favela Love Story, which dropped last August. She’s clearly excited about the new album, emphasising how central it has been throughout her production and visual direction. “I’ve been involved in every step of the production and visual direction, and I’ve achieved the result I’ve been aiming for,” Anitta stated.

Last year, Anitta parted ways with Warner Music Group, claiming she would have “auctioned off her organs” to end her contract with them. The musician had been with the label for over a decade. Her warnings about the importance of legal documents to her followers serves as a timely reminder of the precautions that should be taken when signing contracts.

Anitta is notably vocal about her plans to end her singing career in the next five years, commenting on her desire to seek new opportunities in her career. She expressed an interest in developing her acting career, stating that she would “definitely” take on new challenges and experiences
