Michael Keaton returns in ‘Beetlejuice Beetlejuice’ trailer

After years of speculation, the first teaser trailer for the highly anticipated sequel to Tim Burton’s classic film “Beetlejuice” has finally arrived. The brief clip features the return of Michael Keaton as the mischievous ghoul and Winona Ryder’s Lydia Deetz alongside Catherine O’Hara’s Delia Deetz, 36 years after their previous outing. New characters played by Jenna Ortega and Monica Bellucci are also introduced. The film’s core plot is not revealed but is expected to follow Ortega’s character, who seems to be the daughter of Lydia Deetz, as she resurrects Beetlejuice.

Monica Bellucci will play Beetlejuice’s wife, and Willem Dafoe will portray a “police officer in the afterlife” and former “B movie action star,” whose acting skills help him as an afterlife detective. Justin Theroux has also been added to the cast in a new role. The original film was released in 1988 and revolved around Alec Baldwin and Geena Davis’s characters, Adam and Barbara Maitland, who become ghosts after dying in a car crash and attempt to scare off the Deetz family, who have moved into their home.

The rumours of a “Beetlejuice” sequel have been around since 2012, with both Keaton and Ryder expressing an interest in the project for years before its official announcement in February 2022. Despite the slight delay in production due to last year’s SAG-AFTRA actors strike, the “Beetlejuice” sequel has retained its original release date of September 6, 2024.

As a staple of the horror-comedy genre, “Beetlejuice” struck a chord with audiences upon its release and became a critical and commercial success. Fans have eagerly awaited the release of this sequel, which hopes to be just as successful as its predecessor. Only time will tell whether the sequel will capture the same magic as the original, or whether it will be just another attempt to cash in on an audience’s nostalgia
