Ten recordings have been added to the GRAMMY Hall Of Fame this year, including tracks by Lauryn Hill, Donna Summer and De La Soul. This year marks the 50th anniversary of the Hall Of Fame, and the inductees include landmark contributions from the disco and hip hop genres. The qualifying albums include Lauryn Hill’s ‘Miseducation of Lauryn Hill’, ‘3 Feet High and Rising’ by De La Soul, and ‘I Feel Love’ by Donna Summer.
Lauryn Hill posted her gratefulness on Instagram, thanking the GRAMMY Hall Of Fame for acknowledging her album. Last year, De La Soul released a digital back catalogue in celebration of their album ‘3 Feet High and Rising’, which is now 35 years old. The album’s co-founder, David Jolicoeur, who passed away last month at the age of 54, was remembered by Cypress Hill’s B-Real, who said that Jolicoeur’s music will always live on.
There were contributions from other genres of music this year, including American Jazz, soul, and country. This year, Charley Pride, William Bell, Kid Ory & his Creole Jazz Band, and the Buena Vista Social Club were also added to the Hall Of Fame, marking over 25 years since the release of the internationally recognised album of the same name.
In a press release from the Recording Academy, CEO Harvey Mason jr stated, “We’re proud to unveil the diverse mix of recordings entering the GRAMMY Hall Of Fame in its 50th year”.
