Shellac, the American noise rock band, has revealed their upcoming album entitled ‘To All Trains’. This marks their first album in a decade, and will be their sixth release to date. The band, comprising Steve Albini, Bob Weston and Todd Trainer, announced the news via social media on March 20. The upcoming album follows 2014’s ‘Dude Incredible’ and is due to be released on May 17 through Touch And Go. The album is now available for pre-order here.
The album’s tracklist shows that it includes ten songs, including ‘WSOD’, ‘Girl From Outside’, ‘Wednesday’ and ‘I Don’t Fear Hell’. The album was recorded in four sessions using long weekends, separated by several years, between November 2017 and March 2022. Electrical Audio, in Chicago, was the recording location for the album. According to the Touch And Go website, there is no connection between the album release and live shows or tours by the band.
Shellac is known for Albini’s role as a producer, which saw him working with various artists such as Nirvana, Jimmy Page, Robert Plant and Pixies, among others. In an interview with NME, Albini opened up about working on Nirvana’s final album, ‘In Utero’, which was a follow-up to the internationally-renowned ‘Nevermind’. During the interview, he stated that the sessions were kept secret to prevent his studio from being overrun by fans. Despite the popularity of the session, he described it as “fairly normal”, aside from the concerns about the fans.
