Baroque pop band The Last Dinner Party recently covered Sparks’ classic ‘This Town Ain’t Big Enough For The Both Of Us’. Lead guitarist Emily Roberts explained during an interview on The Jo Whiley Show on March 6 that a friend once told her that the band sounded like Sparks and then became obsessed with the song, leading the band to decide to record the cover. The full show is available to listen to on the BBC’s website.

The Last Dinner Party are famously inspired by other artists. In an interview with NME at the BRIT Awards, the band talked about their admiration for St. Vincent. Roberts praised the musician for her ability to craft amazing songs and riffs, adding that she loves playing her guitar. The band’s music also draws on St. Vincent, with Roberts explaining how the influence can be heard on their album ‘Prelude to Ecstasy’, particularly on the song ‘Sinner’. The guitar line for ‘Sinner’ was inspired by ‘Marrow’, a St. Vincent song from the album ‘Brass Tactics’.

The Last Dinner Party recently found themselves in controversy as a quote was attributed to lead singer Abigail Morris that was not actually hers. TLDP bassist Georgia Davies clarified the statement, explaining that it was taken from an interview six months ago and used out of context. Davies stated that the band was disappointed that the quote had been presented in that way, as the original context was important.
