Sum 41’s frontman, Deryck Whibley, has announced a new memoir called “Walking Disaster: My Life Through Heaven And Hell.” According to Gallery Books, the book will share Whibley’s life story and also reveal “the untold story of Sum 41.” The book is set to publish on October 8, 2023.
In the meantime, Sum 41 is set to release their final album, “Heaven :x: Hell,” on March 29 via Rise Records. The band will also embark on their final world tour beginning in April 2024 and ending in January 2025. This final tour will take the Canadian punk icons across North America and Europe before their last show on January 30, 2025, in Toronto, Ontario.
This isn’t the first time Whibley has faced health challenges. In 2014, he was hospitalized for nearly a month with severe liver and kidney damage resulting from alcohol abuse. Doctors warned him that one more alcoholic drink would be life-threatening. He was also hospitalized with pneumonia while touring in Australia in 2011.
Whibley’s wife confirmed his hospitalisation with pneumonia back in September 2022. This illness caused Sum 41 to reschedule some of their shows. However, the band has continued to work towards finishing their final album and tour.
Whibley has spoken about the forthcoming album, saying that it’s “aggressive” and “the perfect way to go out.” According to him, the new album is more than just nostalgia, and even if he tried to recreate “All Killer, No Filler,” he wouldn’t be able to. The band has already released two singles, “Landmines” and “Rise Up,” which tells Whibley’s story coming out of the hospital 10 years ago
