Here’s why Barack Obama turned down a cameo on new Netflix series

Former US President Barack Obama declined a role in an upcoming Netflix series, according to Game of Thrones creators David Benioff and D.B. Weiss. The pair had reportedly asked Obama to appear in a cameo role for the eight-part series 3 Body Problem, but the former President responded with a “very funny note”. The science fiction series, which is set to premiere on March 21, is based on Liu Cixin’s bestselling novel and follows a group of scientists trying to stop an impending alien invasion that threatens to destroy humanity.

Looks like Obama wants to “keep his powder dry in case there’s a real thing,” added Weiss. Furthermore, The New York Times reported that Obama also spoke of the book being something he reads to “get out of his head”, describing it as “just wildly imaginative, really interesting … the scope of it was so immense.”

The cast of 3 Body Problem includes some Game of Thrones actors like Sir Jonathan Pryce, Liam Cunningham, and John Bradley who played the character Samwell Tarly. According to Netflix, the show will take its audience on an “epic story that redefines sci-fi drama with its layered mysteries and story of human connection”. The upcoming series has already generated quite the buzz with readers of the book highly anticipating the adaptation for small screens. While the show itself promises to be a unique story, the thought of Barack Obama saving himself for a real-life alien invasion is a humorous tidbit that is sure to spark conversations
