The upcoming reboot of the classic horror-revenge love story, The Crow, has just released its first trailer. Starring Bill Skarsgård – famous for his role as Pennywise the Clown in It – as Eric Draven and FKA Twigs as his girlfriend Shelly, the trailer explores the couple’s relationship before their untimely deaths. Skarsgård’s character is resurrected and goes on a brutal and gory rampage against those who wronged him.
The original 1994 film star, Brandon Lee, lost his life in a tragic on-set accident during production. Speaking to Vanity Fair, director Rupert Sanders – best known for Snow White and the Huntsman – said he considers the remake a tribute to Lee’s memory, even though it is a completely new take on the story. The original movie was based on the same-titled 1989 comic book series by James O’Barr.
Sanders added that Skarsgård brings a kind of “disturbing beauty” to the role, saying that “There’s a real fragility and beauty to his version of the Crow and I think Bill feels like he is a successor to that.” Sanders hopes that Lee would be proud of the new version of the movie and that his soul is very much alive in it.
The trailer ends with the announcement that the movie is set to land in cinemas on June 7, 2024. For FKA Twigs fans, she has recently teased the arrival of her new techno-inspired album that is set to be released soon.
The remake of The Crow comes after its 1994 original and a string of sequels and novelties, some of which never left the production stage. The upcoming version hopes to revive the story with a new and unique plot driven by a talented cast and a skilled director
