Anne Hughes, 72, was suspended in the air by her coat while still holding onto her shopping trolley, in an incident that was captured on CCTV and viewed millions of times online. The artist responsible for the mural, graffiti artist Tee2Sugars from Tonyrefail, said he jumped at the chance to paint the tribute, describing the chance to paint the incident as “too good to pass up.”
The artwork on the front of the Best One convenience store took two hours to complete and features Anne Hughes hanging upside down. The mural was painted as a tribute to the cleaner who had been working at the store for several years when the incident occurred. Although the store has now been closed for the day, the artwork will remain in place for a long time, with Tee2Sugars declaring that “Anne will be preserved there forever, stuck upside down.”
Anne Hughes herself was shaken up but uninjured by her ordeal, which occurred while the store owner was inside and could not hear her informing him that her coat had become snagged. Despite the experience, Hughes saw the funny side of the incident and vowed to handle the fame that it brought. The artwork, which has now become a local attraction, is a fitting tribute to an incident that captured public attention and has led to an enduring tribute to a remarkable woman
