ItaloJohnson to part ways after 15 years with final gig at Panorama Bar

After almost 15 years of performing together, ItaloJohnson has announced that they will be splitting up. The mysterious trio, known only by their initials ‘R’, ‘M’, and ‘J’, will be playing their final shows over the upcoming Easter weekend. Their agent has confirmed that their last set will take place on Monday, April 1, when they play the closing slot at Panorama Bar in Berlin’s Berghain club.

Before their final performance, ItaloJohnson will play one more set at Bassiani in Tbilisi, Georgia, on March 29. The trio formed in 2010 with the release of their debut ‘Untitled’ EP. ItaloJohnson’s sole mission was to share “simple body soul music”, which they went on to share with their international audiences. Throughout 2023 alone, the group had played several gigs, including Berlin’s ÆDEN and Paris’ Sacré, and released new music.

ItaloJohnson’s members have remained anonymous throughout their performances. However, in a 2016 interview with Mixmag, they revealed that they met each other on the dancefloor of Panorama Bar in 2006 and that they shared the exact same ideas about sound. They spoke about how they loved the raw beats, stripped-down, and groovy yet repetitive sound of straight-ahead house music.

At the time of writing, the group had not released an official statement, and Mixmag is still attempting to make contact with ItaloJohnson for more information. In a fitting tribute to the trio, Mixmag has shared ItaloJohnson’s InSession from 2016.
